November Events For Long Island Dogs and Owners in 2023
During spring and summer, getting out in the sunshine with your dog comes naturally to many owners. But as we head towards the winter months, it’s easy to fall into familiar habits that keep us indoors too often. This November, why not mix things up a little and get out of the house for an event that caters to dog lovers?
At Dan’s Pet Care, we’re always keeping an eye out for dog-friendly and dog-centered events in our community. Some of these events benefit charities and nonprofit organizations that help dogs and people in need. Some provide opportunities for you to spend quality time with your dog. And all our suggestions below are great ways to meet other New York dog lovers. This article will explore few November events that Long Island dog owners are sure to enjoy!
The Canine Companions Annual Veterans Day Event in Hyde Park
Canine Companions is an organization that’s dedicated to training service dogs. Many Americans use service dogs to live more independently and confidently. A few of these groups include people with:
vision or hearing impairment
autism
muscular dystrophy
diabetes
conditions that cause seizures
Service dogs require intensive and costly training before they’re ready to be matched with their owners. If you’d like to support Canine Companions, consider attending the annual Veterans Day event in Hyde Park this year. Their annual Salute Independence awards ceremony benefits the Canine Companions Veterans Initiative Program.
The LI-DOG HOWL-o-Ween Pawty and Fundraiser
On Sunday, November 5, LI-DOG will host a HOWL-o-Ween Pawty and Fundraiser event at the Pine Grove Inn. Event activities include:
a costume contest and parade for you and your dog
music
games including Musical Sit
raffles and prizes
plenty of food for humans and dogs alike
agility courses
a paw printing booth
a photo booth for dogs and a kissing booth for people
A fundraising event to benefit LI-DOG. This organization works to improve access to public park land for local dogs and their owners.
Pups and Pints at d.b.a.
At Pups and Pints, you can enjoy a cold beverage while painting your very own portrait of your furry friend. Before the event, an artist will draw your pet for you. When you show up, all you’ll need to do is relax and watercolor the drawing to bring your dog’s portrait to life. Your dog is welcome to attend, as long as they are well socialized and well behaved. Plan to purchase at least one drink, and keep in mind that you must be at least 21 (or be a canine) to enter d.b.a.
Paw Balm at the Wet Babylon Public Library
If you love dogs and books, why not support the public library while making a special treat for your dog? At this November 15 library event, teens and tweens are invited to make a DIY balm designed to protect dogs’ paws from the harsh winter weather. Attendees will use coconut butter, shea butter and other beneficial ingredients to make your very own paw balm. Teens can earn an hour of community service for participating, and some of the jars will be donated to local rescues.
November Coffee Bark in Prospect Park
If you enjoy meeting other dog owners and their pets, why not check out the Coffee Bark on November 18 in Prospect Park? Every month, FIDO sets up a table with coffee, pastries and dog treats in Prospect Park’s picnic house. This free event is a great way for you and your dog to make new friends. Enjoy Saturday morning in a laid-back atmosphere while getting some sunshine with your canine companion!
The Ultimate “Dogue” Fashion Experience at Rockland Fashion Week
This exclusive Rockland Fashion Week event combines two fabulous elements: dogs and fashion! You’ll get to see dogs hit the runway with their owners sporting the latest fall fashions. The event takes place at the Palisades Center on November 2, with proceeds benefiting a local kennel. You can contact event organizers about participating in the show with your pet — or you can just sit back and enjoy the entertainment!
