We are Long Island's first and only cage-free boarding facility. Our goal is to create a stress-free, fun, safe, and enjoyable environment for our dogs and our team alike. We will always focus on creating a safe space for your dog without putting them in a stressful situation like being stuck in the kennel for 18 hours a day. We have an on-call veterinarian available 24-7 for emergencies, and our team members are CPR and first aid trained.
-

Absolutely. We believe thoroughly in transparency. So when you book your temperament test, which is free of charge, you get a full tour of the entire facility, seeing every part of what we do and where we do it. We don't believe in hiding anything from pet parents.
-
Our facility requires a temperament test before a dog is able to join the play group. So, this is their first introduction. Then from there, our team will make an assessment whether or not they are a good fit for our facility. If they do pass, we will recommend either a full day or a half day, depending on the dog's score that they get on the test. When that happens, we will help them transition to their new life of play and fun at Dan’s Pet Care.

Cage-free boarding at our facility is a unique and compassionate approach to pet care, ensuring your dog feels safe, loved, and fulfilled while you’re away. Here’s what sets it apart:
Your Dog is Never Alone
Your dog always has a caring companion by their side. Our dedicated team members are present 24/7, providing continuous companionship, supervision, and personalized care. This around-the-clock attention ensures that your pet feels secure, comforted, and valued, even in a new environment.
Reduced Stress and Anxiety
We’ve created a calm and nurturing atmosphere that helps to minimize stress and anxiety in every pet. Our team takes the time to understand each dog’s needs and temperament, offering comfort and reassurance. By focusing on gentle routines and individual care, we help your dog feel at ease, promoting relaxation and a smoother transition.
Increased Socialization & Pack Sleeping
Dogs are naturally social animals, and our cage-free environment encourages safe, positive interactions with others. Spending time with fellow dogs helps build social skills, reduces loneliness, and fosters a sense of belonging. In addition, our pack sleeping approach allows dogs to rest with their newfound friends, creating a comforting, communal experience that helps them settle in comfortably.
Loving, Nurturing Environment
In our cage-free boarding facility, dogs receive constant love and attention from our team members, creating a warm and affectionate atmosphere. This approach fosters a strong bond between our caregivers and your pet, making them feel truly cared for and supported, just like they would at home.
More Exercise and Natural Play
Our facility is designed to provide ample opportunities for your dog to engage in physical exercise and natural play. With plenty of space to run, explore, and play with other dogs, your pet can enjoy an active, enriching experience that keeps them happy, fit, and mentally stimulated throughout their stay.
This combination of personalized care, socialization, and enrichment makes cage-free boarding the ultimate stress-free and enjoyable experience for your dog.

Safety is our number one priority and it is a part of everything we do here at Dan's Pet Care. We practice temperament tests prior to every single dog coming into our facility to ensure they are a good fit. Our team members are trained on canine body language and behavior. They're also trained in CPR and pet first aid. We make sure to ensure practices that focus solely on safety and good behavior. We also have an on-call veterinarian, as well as relationships with emergency veterinarians.

We will maintain a 18:1 ratio of dogs to staff. Some facilities go as high as 40:1 but we feel this is not the correct way to operate due to our high safety standards.
Dog Behavior and Grouping
-
No, we do not believe in restricting dogs based on breed. We perform a temperament test on all dogs that come into our facility to ensure they are a good fit for our environment for everyone’s safety including their own.
-
We have 3 large playfields where we divide the dogs up by size, age and temperament. This is done to ensure compatibility and everyone’s safety.
-
We typically split up our playgroups by size, age, and temperament to ensure that everybody has the right fit for the group they're with.
-
We assess the temperaments of each dog during their temperament test and we split all the playgroups up by size, age, and temperament to ensure the correct grouping.
-
All dogs that enter our facility are required to go through our full intake evaluation and temperment tests. This means they must be able to be around other dogs, not have any resource guarding issues as well as be handlded by our team members without incident. Each evaluation is completed by an senior and experienced member of our team.
-
If your dog does not get along with other dogs, while our facility might not be the right fit for them, we do have lots of options to be able to help, including in-home overnight pet sitting services, daily dog walks. We also offer training, which can help us help you develop skills for your dog to work with other dogs.
Health and Wellness
-
All dogs are required to be vaccinated for Bordetella, Distemper, Leptospirosis, and Rabies.
-
All dogs are required to have the following active vaccinations to enter our facility to ensure the safety of all animals in our care. Dogs must be current on their Bordetella, DLPP, Rabies and Leptospirosis. We also conduct regular health checks on the dogs to monitor for any potential medical issues.
-
We deep clean the facility twice a day, and then the facility is cleaned multiple times throughout the day. As each playfield gets used, it is cleaned. Anytime a dog has an accident or goes to the bathroom, everything is being cleaned with Kenesol, which helps to prevent many communicable diseases. And we also are cleaning and scrubbing down the outdoor playfields multiple times throughout the day. All beds, toys, and treats are cleaned and sanitized multiple times throughout the day as well.
-
Our outdoor playfields come equipped with mounted sprinklers and multiple pools. We also hose down the playfields multiple times throughout the day to ensure a cool and comfortable temperature. We also have the ground painted with a light blue paint to ensure the temperature is lower than that of what it would be on turf or blacktop. Safety and comfort are always at the forefront and front of mind, and we are always aiming to ensure your pets feel safe, happy, and comfortable.
-
Our team members are trained to handle all medical needs and diseases that any pet may bring in. We deal with diabetics, epileptic dogs, and all sorts of other things. We will discuss your dog's specific needs during your temperament test when you come to visit us, but do not worry, we can handle the majority of related issues.
-
If there are any medical issues going on, we will be in constant communication with you, the pet parent, but if there are issues that need to be addressed, we have an on-call veterinarian we work with who can come to the facility, or we would make a quick trip to one of our local emergency vet partners.
-
We would be happy to accommodate any medical needs pertaining to your dog. All you need to do is provide us with the specific information about the medication, including name, dosage, and frequency of distribution, and then package out the medication and give it to your pet.

We created our own in-house training program that our team members go through before they even step foot in the play field. So they go through an online training course that we've developed that covers everything from canine body language to knowing how to read dog interactions, pet first aid, CPR. Then they are trained for a few weeks with our senior team members in the play field on how to go about all of our safety protocols and procedures. We are also assessing and analyzing performance and knowledge throughout the year and providing continuing education for our team members as well. We are never done training and we are never done developing.
-
We have an on-call veterinarian who provides us with emergency veterinary services. If they are not available, we work with Veterinary Emergency Group, which is only a 15-minute quick drive. Our team members are also CPR trained and pet first aid trained as well.
