The community is rejoicing after a 13-year-old golden retriever named Sage made a miraculous return home after spending 65 days alone in the wilderness.
Sage disappeared from her family's home shortly after the Fourth of July. The family believes an unexpected firework startled her, causing her to bolt into the nearby forest.
Despite the family's exhaustive search efforts, Sage was nowhere to be found. Their anxiety heightened when they learned of a bear sighting in the area. "When we heard about the bear, our hearts sank. We were so worried about Sage," said Beth, a family member.
But the family's hope never waned. Throughout the summer, they tirelessly combed the nearby trails and responded to every possible sighting of Sage.
Their dedication bore fruit in September. A local quarry worker named Tim Eddy reached out to the family with some promising news. "I believe I've found your dog," he said. Sage was located near a cliffside, her golden fur blending seamlessly with the ash and rock.
The family thinks Sage might have been familiar with the quarry area from their past visits. When they finally reunited with her, Sage weighed a mere 30 pounds, almost half her original weight. "She's always been resilient. We suspect she might have survived by foraging wild berries and drinking from streams," Beth speculated.
Remarkably, this wasn't Sage's first brush with danger. A few years ago, she had been trapped in a similar situation, only to be rescued just in time.
Now safely back home, Sage has already regained 11 pounds and is on her way to a full recovery. Her story serves as a testament to the resilience of pets and the unbreakable bond they share with their families.
